Implementation of Seed Village Scheme for Improving the Socio-Economic Status of Farmers through Seed Technological Intervention (DAC&FW)
The Seed Village Programme, implemented by the Government of India, aims to make quality seeds of climate-resilient, biofortified, and high-yielding varieties available to farmers at the village level.
Objectives
- To improve the quality of farmers’ saved seed through use of different seed enhancement techniques.
- To ensure disease- and insect-free quality seed production by using suitable plant protection measures.
- To train farmers in seed production technology, use of quality seeds, and improved practices for different seed crops.
In order to promote quality seed for improving production and productivity of agriculture, ICAR – National Institute of Seed Science and Technology, Mau has implemented the Seed Village Scheme. The scheme focuses on development and strengthening of seed infrastructure for production and distribution of quality seeds to farmers, with financial support from the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.
