Ongoing projects (List): Genetic analysis of seed quality traits in tomato

Research Accomplishments (5 Best)

  • Development of Rice Varieties: Developed rice varieties including DRR Dhan 55, DRR Dhan 56, DRR Dhan 60, Bina Dhan 17, BRRI Dhan 69, and BRRI Dhan 75, suitable for various rice ecologies.
  • Marker-Assisted Transfer of Imazethapyr Herbicide Resistance Gene: Transferred resistance gene from donor parent Pusa 44 NIL into DRR Dhan 60 and DRR Dhan 44. Developed BC3F2 introgression lines with herbicide resistance and high yield potential.
  • QTL Mapping for Early Seedling Vigour and Weed Competitiveness: Identified QTL hotspot regions in IR64*1/O. glaberrima associated with early seedling vigour and weed competitiveness (Muralidhara et al., 2020).
  • Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS): GWAS in rice germplasm identified significant genomic regions for root and yield traits under aerobic and irrigated conditions (Padmashree et al., 2023).
  • Mapping Bacterial Blight Resistance from O. glaberrima: QTL analysis in BC2F6 population revealed a major QTL on chromosome 6 conferring resistance to bacterial blight.

Additional Contributions

  • AB-NAM Population Development: Developed an AB-NAM population with 1500 BC1F6 lines using 10 accessions of O. glaberrima to improve early seedling vigour and weed competitiveness.
  • Blast-Resistant Introgression Lines: Developed high-yielding, blast-resistant genotypes from Oryza rufipogon in the Samba Mahsuri background (Basavaraj et al., 2020; 2021).
  • Involvement in AICRIP: Contributed to seed multiplication/distribution, fund release to voluntary centers, data analysis, and report preparation.
  • Soybean Core Collection Development: Developed a core set of 713 soybean accessions using morphological and yield traits (Gireesh et al., 2015).
